Auguste Rodin

While seeing the Rodin exhibition at the TATE I was immediately appealed to the mini sculptures where Rodin experimented with scale. As well as this I also liked the way in which he represented movement and fluidity in his sculptures. He asked his models to move freely around his studio which is why his work was so new at the time. I saw his sculptures in the TATE but also in the V&A (the drawings are from the V&A). For my drawings, I wanted to also capture this sense of movement within his still sculptures as well as the space surrounding the figure and the materials used.

As a response to the work in the TATE, I was very inspired by creating spatial collages that also played with materials, and scale. This not only brought in ideas from the textiles and spatial workshop but also ideas from Rodin. Therefore, I purposefully left my fingers holding the material in the images to experiment with this idea of scale.
