final piece reflection

During the final exhibition I found it very inspiring to see everyone else work as we all started at the same starting point with a list of prompts but we all took our own approach to them and ended up with really original and different work which is why I also really enjoyed trying out the communication pathway these past two weeks. I found the task really open minded and I was also really pleased to see how my work progressed and I was happy to see my final exhibition layout as I thought it looked aesthetically pleasing and was bringing across the ideas I was attempting to bring across.

Having different discussions with other people about my work but also their work inspired me further. I found these discussions interesting because people were seeing my work differently which is what I love to portray because I like having open minded work and I love how different people see my work differently as this opens more ideas and opportunities for me within my work.

For our afternoon CRIT we were put into groups and when it was my turn to show my work I was asked to go outside while my group answered questions and then I would return and they would feedback to me. I was really happy with my feedback and my groups response.

the first question was if 'the work communicates an idea without any help? And what do you think the message is? My group peers each responded differently as they each say a different message. They saw that my work was open for interpretation and the ideas were about identity and struggle, moving through different time and space, and about time and movement. The idea about time, space and movement were ideas that I was trying to explore and convey. However the idea about identity was an idea that I hadn't actually thought about, but I loved that they brought this up because I like being exposed to new ideas about my own work. The idea was about a struggle of the mind moving differently from the body and the obstacles within this. This is a new idea that I want to carry on exploring as I found this concept really interesting and I can see how my work would convey this idea.

The second question was about the materials that had been explored, and if these were the best methods and materials to communicate this idea and if this could have been done differently. The feedback I received was good as they thought that the moving image was effective in conveying movement (the tracings and outlines were well received). They also thought that the film and still images work well together. The film also gave a sense of reality which contrasted to the drawn lines. They also liked that I played with scale.

The third question was if they could identify a message or narrative in the work and if so what the tone of voice is? And who the audience is? They attempted that the audience was for all ages and that the piece was very open fort interpretation and the tones were various as it depends on the audience and how they choose to read into the piece. This is something that I find really interesting because it makes the piece be independent and the way an audience reads into the piece can also say something about that person.

Does the work make us of language/type/words? And if text is necessary? They didn't think that text was necessary, because the piece worked well without language or text. They also stated that the body creates its own language in the piece, which I found really helpful because I like created visual pieces where the audience can decide on their own narrative.

What could be developed further and where would you take it if you took the project on as a group? The feedback was to make the piece more interactive - something that I completely agree with because I love interactive work and using the audience more as they become the artwork themselves. Also adding more judge on body language and possible looking at emotion and a narrative.

Lastly what area my work could fit in. They said that I would work well in the Film and Animation specialism in Communication but that my work also suited the Fine Art pathway.
